This collection contains one blank Glenwood City Treasury warrant and one bank note from the Bank of Amity for ninety dollars dated for August 22, 1916.
Biographical/Historical Note
In 1916, money was backed by precious metals, and a banknote was a form of an I.O.U. that promised to pay someone in precious metals when the person called in the note. It was a negotiable promissory note issued by a bank and payable to the owner of that note on demand. A city treasury warrant was the method in which city government disbursements were paid.
