Description
This collection contains one ribbon-bound compilation of works by various members of the Arkansas Authors' and Composers' Society for the 25th anniversary of the organization, titled "The Writer".
Biographical/Historical Note
The Arkansas Authors' and Composers' Society was formed to raise public awareness of local and state authors and composers, providing them with opportunities for publication in newspapers and in the society's own publications. Composer and writer Mrs. C.E. Whitney founded the organization on June 1, 1914, and served as the first president of the Arkansas Authors' and Composers' Society. In 1919, the organization started a publication detailing its events and news titled "News and Notes". This publication was renamed the "Arkansas Writer" in 1921.
