Description

This scrapbook was compiled by the family of William Starling/Sterling, a Union Army officer from Frankfort, Kentucky. The scrapbook includes clippings, funeral notices, photographs, currency, correspondence, broadsides, military orders, maps, and poems. It also contains a printed history of the Spanish-American War.

Biographical/Historical Note

William Starling/Sterling, a major in Company K, Eighth Kentucky Infantry, United States Army, during the Civil War, was born about 1833 in Rushville, New York. A topographical engineer by profession, he served in the Third Division of the Twenty-First Corps in the Atlanta Campaign. He was a long-time citizen of Frankfort, Kentucky, where he died in 1905.
