Biographical/Historical Note
McRae High School in Prescott, Nevada County, Arkansas, was established about 1902. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. McRae donated the land to the Prescott School District for an African American school. From 1924 to 1931, McRae School held classes for the first through the eighth grades, and by 1932, extended to the tenth grade. The school graduated its first twelfth grade student in 1939. The school closed in 1969 following integration. Thomas McRae served as governor of Arkansas from 1921 to 1925.
