This collection contains applications, meeting minutes, member lists, ledgers, convention and printed ephemera, and financial and correspondence documents regarding the Joe Wheeler No. 247 chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in Dardanelle, Arkansas.
Biographical/Historical Note
Joe Wheeler No. 247 is the Dardanelle, Arkansas, Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and was founded in 1898. The chapter was highly active from the end of the 1800s into the first decades of the twentieth century. In 1921, the chapter erected the Dardanelle Confederate Monument, which now stands on the grounds of the Yell County Courthouse. The group still meets currently.
