This collection contains correspondence, tax material, receipts and accounting materials, legal documents, bonds, Christian religious material, and voting materials during Reconstruction and afterwards, spanning the years of 1857 through 1908.

Biographical/Historical Note

Ezekiel Staggs was born in Tennessee in the late 1820s. After marrying his wife, Margaret, the couple moved to Hickory Plain, Arkansas, where Ezekiel's was a farmer. When the Civil War began, he enlisted and became a private in the 25th Regiment in the Arkansas Infantry, CSA. He survived the war and returned to Hickory Plain, where he passed away in 1881.
