Biographical/Historical Note
Floyd Calvin Shoemaker was born on May 7, 1886 in Kissimmee, Florida, son of Frank Calvin and Emma Viola (Dreyer) Shoemaker. Shoemaker earned a Bachelor of Philosophy from Kirksville (Missouri) State Normal School in 1906, Bachelor of Arts from Missouri in 1909, and AM from University Missouri in 1911. Floyd Shoemaker was a teacher of history and Latin at Gallatin High School (Missouri) in 1909, assistant professor of political science and public law at the University Missouri from 1909-1911, assistant secretary and librarian at the State history Society Missouri from 1910-1915, secretary, librarian, State history Society Missouri, 1915-1960, and consultant to State history Society Missouri in 1960. Floyd Calvin Shoemaker has been listed as a noteworthy Historian by Marquis Who's Who, Member American, Mississippi Valley history associations, American Association State and Local History (merit award 1955, 59), Association American Archivists, Society of America Historians, Masons, Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Delta Chi (life, Wells Key 1941). Married Caroline Tull on June 2, 1911, and later divorced. They had 1 child, Evelyn Shoemaker. Evelyn later married L. Pearle McCown, July 2, 1944.
