Description

This collection contains a notice regarding the Columbian Exposition "Arkansas Must Be Represented," a capitol stock certificate from the Arkansas World's Fair Association, and a letter.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Columbian Exposition was planned to open in Chicago, Illinois, in 1892 to coincide with the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' voyage to America, but opened a year late. In 1891, the Arkansas World's Fair Association met and agreed for Arkansas to participate in the Exposition to encourage settlers to move to Arkansas. Financial and political difficulties threatened the project but it was finally completed in time for the World's Fair in 1893.
