Description
This collection is comprised of a message "To the People of Washington County" by James H. Stirman, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, concerning his candidacy as a delegate to the secession convention. In this statement he announces his vote against secession.
Biographical/Historical Note
Stirman moved to Arkansas from Kentucky with his brother Alfred and opened a general mercantile business. James was a partner in the firm Stirman & Dickson and he also served as one of the Union members of the convention from Washington County, Arkansas.
