Biographical/Historical Note
In the Arkansas version of the Arkansas Traveler, Sanford Faulkner is said to have gotten lost in rural Arkansas around 1840. He stopped to ask for directions from a squatter in a log cabin. The squatter avoided any and all direct answer with humorous responses, until Faulkner offered to play the squatter's fiddle. The squatter was so happy with the tune of the “Arkansas Traveler” he offered his hospitality and answered Faulkner’s questions. This collection holds two copies of the Arkansas Traveler's dialogue between the lost traveler and the squatter with the fiddle.
