Description
This collection contains one letter written from J.H. Moore, Camden, Arkansas, to his sister, Dora. The letter was written on February 5, 1882. It discusses Dora's plans to marry. The letter also references another sister who is not named. The collection also contains a transcription of the letter, transcribed by the donor of the collection, April Farrar Guin.
Biographical/Historical Note
The letter in this collection is believed to have been written by James Howe Moore. Moore was born around 1842 or 1843 in Bradley County, Tennessee. He married Dorothy A. (Dartha) Crowder (born around 1853 or 1854 in Tennessee) sometime around 1870 or 1871. It is believed that Moore served in the Civil War in the 19th Infantry, Company A. He died in Little Rock in 1917.
