Biographical/Historical Note

"History of Texarkana, Arkansas," by William H. Arnold details the foundation of the city and the railroad corporations that owned the land. It reviews the laws under which different people and companies held title to that land, and the history of how the town was incorporated and the type of people who made Texarkana their home. William H. Arnold was born in Union County, Arkansas, in 1861, the son of David and Tempie Arnold. He went to school in Ansley’s Academy near Prescott, Arkansas, and learned the law from private tutors. He was admitted to the Arkansas state bar in 1882. William was asked by Mrs. Nannie E. Forman, of the Texarkana Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, to write a history of Texarkana, Arkansas in 1917.
