This collection contains one pamphlet on agriculture and rice farming in Stuttgart, Arkansas, one photocopy of a magazine article about rice farming in Stuttgart, and one certificate appointing J.H. Van Duyn as mayor of Stuttgart.

Biographical/Historical Note

Stuttgart, Arkansas, is a city in Arkansas County, Arkansas. It was founded by Reverend Adam Burkle, a native of Plettenhardt, Germany. It is named after Stuttgart in Germany in honor of his home. Stuttgart, Arkansas, became a city in 1884. It is well known for its rice industry. Rice farming was introduced in the city in 1904, and the first rice mill in Arkansas opened in Stuttgart in 1906. It is now home to Riceland Foods, the largest miller and marketer of rice in the world.
