This collection contains the business and financial papers of Louis Walther, a businessman and alderman in Little Rock, Arkansas. The collection includes personal and business correspondence, records for the German American Business Association, records for the City of Little Rock Improvement District No. 110, warranty deeds, receipts, financial statements, promissory notes, and checks.
Biographical/Historical Note
Louis E. Walther was born in June 1861 or 1862 in Little Rock, Arkansas, to German immigrants, Louis and Rosina Walther. Before 1889, he served as a volunteer firefighter for the Torrent Fire Company No. 4 in Little Rock and as a city alderman for the second ward of Little Rock between 1901 and 1907. He married Laura Walther around 1886, had three children, Louis F. Walter, Rosina Walter, and Lucille Walter, and lived at 414 E. 9th St. in Little Rock. He worked in the banking and insurance industries, working as a cashier and bookkeeper for the Bank of Commerce, and running an insurance business with Fred Rossner. He also served as the secretary for the German American Business Association. Louis E. Walther died October 24, 1924, and is buried in Oakland and Fraternal Cemetery in Little Rock.
