Biographical/Historical Note

"The Lost Black History of White County, Arkansas" was a project to research and document the African American history of White County, Arkansas. It was a project of Frances A. Tollivar, who grew up there and began her quest to reconstruct the areas of African American history in 1997. Tollivar also used the topic for her Master’s thesis at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Arkansas in 2001. She researched and interviewed residents in regard to life on area plantations, pioneer African American families, and the local Rosenwald School. This project was made possible with a grant from the Black History Advisory Committee (now the Black History Commission of Arkansas).
