Description
This collection contains official documents, reports, and studies done for the Arkansas Department of Higher Education.
Biographical/Historical Note
This collection documents several initiatives undertaken by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, including the "Comprehensive Study of Higher Education," the merger of the University of Arkansas with the Little Rock University, and "The Manpower Project." "The Comprehensive Study" sought to analyze the present status of each college and university, and thus project the future needs of higher education for each individual institution as well as for Arkansas as a whole. A proposal to merge the University of Arkansas with the Little Rock University first surfaced in the late 1960s with the intention of boosting the quality of higher learning in Central Arkansas. "The Manpower Project" pertains to a concerted effort by state officials to determine the needs of the handicapped and the mentally retarded as well as training qualified and professional persons to serve them.
