Biographical/Historical Note
The Martin Luther King Heritage and Enrichment Center (MLKHEC) decided in 2006 to initiate an oral history project entitled, “Soulful Recollections.” The center’s goal was to interview a diverse group of known and unknown persons of the community in order to capture their memories and life experiences. The center developed a unique approach to the interview process. Beginning in April 2007, interviews were conducted on a weekly basis by friends or family members instead of the Martin Luther King Heritage Center’s staff, with a small audience in attendance. This project was made possible with a grant from the Black History Advisory Committee (now the Black History Commission of Arkansas).
