Biographical/Historical Note
David Crockett Walt was born on December 20, 1863, in Shelby County, Tennessee. He moved to Wabbaseka, Arkansas, in 1884, after graduating from Memphis Hospital Medical College. In 1885, he married Caralie Bridgers, and in 1908, they moved to Little Rock. Coralie died in 1916 and David married Hatty Woodruff Bell in 1928. Hattie died in 1924. No children were born to either marriage. David helped establish the College of Physicians and Surgeons Hospital in Little Rock. The hospital was eventually absorbed into the University of Arkansas Medical Department. David was particularly interested in the treatment of cancer and worked to end morphine addiction in cancer patients. He believed restoring patients to an active and more normal lifestyle was much more beneficial than heavy drug use. He died of cancer on July 22, 1932.
