Description

This collection contains correspondence, legal documents, financial records, and printed materials. It includes such noted individuals as C.G. Ashley, A.H. Garland, J.J. and Martha McAlmont, and C.M. Vaughan. Also included are the constitution and bylaws of the Little Rock Fire Company of 1847.

Biographical/Historical Note

Born in 1910, A. (Albert) Howard Stebbins III descended from a family that settled in the Arkansas area in the late 1700s. Stebbins graduated from Little Rock High School in 1928 and Harvard University in 1932. He returned to Little Rock, where he married his high school classmate, Elsie Bellingrath, in 1934. Stebbins went to work for his father in the Stebbins and Roberts Paint Manufacturing Company. During World War II, he joined the United States Navy. He later worked for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Arkansas, where he became president of the company. An amateur historian, Stebbins donated portions of his Arkansas history collection to the Arkansas History Commission.
