This collection contains correspondence, deed records, photographs, military records, and estate papers pertaining to Annie Parnell Dougherty Welch’s family in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma.

Biographical/Historical Note

Annie Parnell Dougherty the daughter of John and Pernellia Ann Allen Dougherty, was born in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas on December 25, 1885. Her family relocated to Scott County, Arkansas, around 1900. In Arkansas, Annie met and married George Welch on December 25, 1904. The marriage was the first for Annie and the second for George. The union made Annie stepmother to George’s eight children and mother to 11 of their own. Sometime after April 1910, the couple relocated to a farm in Marble City, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. George died there November 6, 1947, and Annie continued to run the farm until the 1970s, when she moved to Sacramento, California. Annie died in Sacramento on March 5, 1986.
