Biographical/Historical Note

The Alex Foundation’s Architects of Jazz was a collaborative partnership with the Curtis Sykes Memorial grant program, Southeast Arkansas public schools and communities, living jazz artists and legendary artists’ family members who represented their loved ones in their memory at the celebration of jazz. The goal of the Architects of Jazz was to bring attention to the historical influence and importance of jazz music. The Architects of Jazz introduced jazz music in the classrooms of school districts in Dermott, Dumas, Lake Village and McGhee, Arkansas, and encouraged the use of lesson plans adapted from the Thelonious Monk Institute.
