Description
This collection holds photographs of the 1927 flood in Little Rock, Sue’s family, friends, and portfolio pictures. It also holds newspaper clippings, letters, printed ephemera, and telegrams.
Biographical/Historical Note
Mildred Sue Bledsoe Blum was born to C.P. Bledsow and Mildred Lee Rayburn Bledsoe on April 11, 1916, in Missouri. Soon after Sue’s birth, her parents divorced and she and her mother went to live with her maternal grandparents, Maurice and Birdie Rayburn, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Sue graduated high school in Little Rock and soon afterwards became a dancing instructor for Dorothy Donelson Studio of Dance at the Peacock Building in Little Rock. She was a local entertainer who also danced for the World Fair, Hotel Sherman in Chicago, Red Cross Shows, and many others. Sue married an Army Colonel, Walter P. Blum, sometime in the 1940s, and they are both buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. She passed away at ninety-four years of age on September 2, 2010. Walter and Sue had two children: Carol Lee Blum and Tommy Blum. Carol was born in Dallas, Texas, on January 27, 1951.
