This collection contains U.S. Senate Bill No. 316, introduced by Arkansas senator J.K. Jones; for the relief claim of Edward Fitzgerald, Bishop of Little Rock and trustee of Fort Smith Catholic Church, dated February 15, 1888.

Biographical/Historical Note

This U.S. Senate Bill from 1888 sought to open an investigation on behalf of Bishop Edward Fitzgerald, who was seeking relief for "timber and fuel" belonging to his church which was "alleged to have been taken by the United States or the armies thereof, at or near Fort Smith... during the war of the rebellion."
