This collection contains financial documents related to John Hemphill. It includes receipts, a promissory note, a bill, and a notice to Nancy Hemphill to settle his estate.
Biographical/Historical Note
John Hemphill was one of the original settlers of Clark County. In 1810, he left Louisiana with his wife Nancy Hemphill and other family members for Arkansas. He settled on Mill Creek near Arkadelphia and established a salt refinery. It is believed to be the first salt factory established in Arkansas. Hemphill died around 1819.
