Biographical/Historical Note
The Arkansas State Fair and Livestock Show, also known as the Arkansas State Fair, is an annual event sponsored by the Arkansas Livestock Show Association. The Arkansas State Agricultural and Mechanical Association was formed on November 6, 1867. One of its purposes was to establish a state fair. The first state fair was held in Little Rock, on November 17-20, 1868. The first fair to include a livestock show occurred on November 9-13, 1938 in North Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas. The fair was held in North Little Rock for three more years. It moved to Pine Bluff in 1943. In 1944 and 1945, the fair was cancelled due to the demands of World War II. In 1944, Little Rock was proposed as the permanent location, and this is where the fair is still held today.
