Biographical/Historical Note
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows is a fraternal order founded in 1819 in Baltimore, Maryland. The Odd Fellows encourage Judeo-Christian ideas of reciprocity and charity. They see it as their duty to visit the sick, educate orphans, care for widows, and to bury the dead. They were the first national fraternity to accept both men and women into their order in 1851 by forming the Daughters of Rebekah. The Grand Lodge of Arkansas was founded in 1847.
