This collection consists of a photocopied letter from John Montgomery to George Rogers Smith with mention of the Ozark Mountains, spelled Oas arcks.

Biographical/Historical Note

This collection contains a photocopy of a letter from John Montgomery to George Rogers Smith. It also contains a photocopy of a letter from Arkansas Ernie Deane saying that the letter is the first mention of the use of the word Ozarks that he has found in his search for the origin of the Ozarks name.
