Description

This collection contains documents from three court cases in which Hal Norwood represented clients, Fagin vs. Smith, Autry vs. Crown Coach Company, and Young vs. DeMarest. The documents include correspondence, depositions, complaints, judgements, and state papers.

Biographical/Historical Note

Hal Norwood was born in Paraclifta, Sevier County, Arkansas, on September 26, 1871, to Lewis H. Norwood and Frances Gilliam. He is the grandson of Ben Norwood, who was one of the earliest settlers in Sevier County, Arkansas. Hal Norwood attended Hendrix College in Altus, Arkansas, and then studied law at Washington and Lee College in Virginia. He was admitted to the bar in July of 1893. Norwood served as state representative, prosecuting attorney, and attorney general. He married Kate Anderson on April 19, 1892, and they had four children. He died on February 19, 1958, in Mena, Polk County, Arkansas.
