Description

This collection contains a diary.

Biographical/Historical Note

Diary by an adjutant officer with the Union Army in Arkansas, primarily in Van Buren and Clarksville; a lengthy and detailed diary by a lieutenant who comments on such things as aspects of camp life, rumors of action in the area, personalities, and policies of his superiors. Written anonymously, the diary disguises the author1s name and those of some close associates by the use of a code. For the most part, he is quite blunt in his opinions of his comrades and the overall conduct of the war in Arkansas.
