This collection contains correspondence, legal documents, financial documents, and miscellaneous items. Some of the early correspondence is in French. The legal documents contain an "extract" of a Baptism from 1793, written in French.
Biographical/Historical Note
Charles Refeld and his wife Magdelain/Magdelaine Billet Menard Refeld, of Arkansas Post, Arkansas County, Arkansas, had seven children, Joseph Refeld, Lewis L. Refeld, Francis Refeld, Emelia Refeld, Carolina Refeld, Charles Refeld II, and Clara Refeld. Lewis L. Refeld married Mary Elizabeth Larquier in 1827. Their children were Joseph M., Eugene, Caroline, Mary L., Julie, and Charles. Joseph M. Refeld married Amelia Haller about 1861. Their children were Lloyd L., Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie), Sidney, Daisy, Charles Price, Ethel. Mary Elizabeth Refeld married George W. Reaves in 1885. Their youngest son was Irel James Reaves.
