This collection contains a letter written by Lawrence Thompson clerk of Greene County, Arkansas to Elias N. Conway, State Auditor on October 28, 1836.
Biographical/Historical Note
Lawrence Thompson settled in Greene County, Arkansas about 1833, and settled on the east side of Crowley's Ridge. When the volume of legal and court activities in the area required a seat of law, Lawrence Thompson and Isaac Brookfield wrote a petition seeking permission to organize a county. Lawrence Thompson became the first county and circuit clerk of Greene County.
