This collection contains orders of Company E, Second Regiment Infantry of the Arkansas National Guard both headquartered in Paris, Arkansas, in 1909.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Militia Act of 1903 organized the various state militias into the present National Guard system. The act was passed in response to the demonstrated weaknesses in the militia, and in the entire U.S. military in the Spanish–American War of 1898. The 2nd Regiment Infantry, Arkansas National Guard was headquartered at Paris, Arkansas as was Company E, 2nd Regiment Infantry, Arkansas National Guard.
