This collection contains photocopies of letters written to various members of the Murphy family. It also includes materials related to Maggie Murphy, including report cards, an autograph book, and items related to her work with the U.D.C.
Biographical/Historical Note
Margaret "Maggie" Murphy Cunningham was born in February 12, 1867, in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas. Her parents were Nicholas Murphy, born in Ireland, and Catherine Drew, born in Arkansas. Maggie married George Edward Cunningham on June 25, 1902, in Pulaski County, Arkansas. George was born on February 18, 1867, in Warrensburg, Missouri. Maggie was Vice-President of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She died on July 1, 1924. George Cunningham died on November 14,1928. John J. Murphy, the brother of Maggie Murphy, was born in November of 1878. Murphy was a city fireman. He was a Corporal in Company A, 2nd Regiment of the Arkansas Volunteers, during the Civil War and was also in the Spanish American War. He married Lula Frank on January 27, 1928, in Pulaski County. The two divorced on December 3, 1931.
