This indenture was dated September 27, 1850, and signed at Wild Haws, Izard County, Arkansas.

Biographical/Historical Note

James D., Owen T., and William F. Watkins left their father's home near Franklin, Tennessee, and settled in the Wild Haws community of Izard County, Arkansas, in 1845. William F. Watkins was born July 3,1817. He worked as a steamboat clerk and sent money to his brothers to purchase land. Owen T. Watkins, a trained physician, was born January 4, 1822. James established a post office at Wild Haws in January1848 and became the postmaster. He also served as state senator from Izard County.
