Description
This collection contains a promissory note signed by J.S. Hurlbut for 100 dollars payable to the Pacific and Great Eastern Railroad Company upon completion of a railroad between Fayetteville and Madison County signed April 8, 1885.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Pacific and Great Eastern Railroad, was projected to run from the Missouri bootheel to the western boundary of Arkansas, near Cincinnati in Washington County. This line was proposed to be linked with the much larger United States and Mexico Railway. The Pacific and Great Eastern Railroad was incorporated on October 23, 1884 and a small line was built from Fayetteville to Wymann and only operated for six years before abandoned.
