This collection contains the papers of the Arkansas La Salle Tricentennial Commission including memos, correspondence, and a final report between 1981 and 1982.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Arkansas La Salle Tricentennial Commission was established by Governor Frank White by Executive Proclamation on February 8, 1982. The commission's purpose was to organize, promote, and supervise activities in Arkansas to recognize the tricentennial of the exploration of the Mississippi River by Rene Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle. The members of the commission included C. Frank Williamson, Chairman; Dorothy Core, Vice Chairman; Charles Bolton, Secretary-Treasurer; J.M. Buffington, John L. Ferguson, Sibyl Hightower, Randy Hill, Donald Holley, Roger Howard, D.L. Huggins, Mrs. Dale Kirkman, Lily Peter, Mrs. J.H. Stroud, Mary Dee Terry, Gibson Turley, and Tom Dillard, ex-officio.
