Description
This collection contains a letter written by Brigadier General Thomas S. Drew, Batesville, Arkansas dated March 11, 1844 to Arkansas Governor Archibald Yell regarding the reorganization of Arkansas' State Militia.
Biographical/Historical Note
Thomas S. Drew (1802-1879) was born in Tennessee, August 25, 1802. He moved to Arkansas Territory in 1817, settling in Clark County, where he served as county clerk from 1823 to 1825. He later moved to Lawrence County, and served as a delegate to the Arkansas Constitutional Convention in 1836. Drew served as Brigadier General in the Arkansas Militia. He was elected governor in 1844 and 1848. He resigned before the end of his second term and moved to Lampasas County, Texas, where he remained until his death in 1879.
