This collection contains correspondence and legal papers belonging to Daniel Peil and George Peil of Arkansas between 1840 and 1870.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Peil family was a German American family living in Arkansas. Daniel Peil, born August 17, 1809 in Germany emigrated to Arkansas in 1834 with his wife Catherine. The Peils had at least two children, Martha and Daniel, both born in Arkansas. George Peil would serve in the 26 Regiment Arkansas Infantry, Confederate States Army during the Civil War. Daniel Peil died December 14, 1868 in Pulaski County, Arkansas.
