This collection contains letters written by the Torrence family of Arkansas and North Carolina between 1858 and 1859.
Biographical/Historical Note
Emily Torrence was born about 1845 in North Carolina to John T. Torrence and Jane Lynch Torrence. Emily's siblings included Vashti, Euphemia, Martha, June Harriet, Leroy, Mary, John, and Catherine. Emily's family moved to Pope County, Arkansas in the 1850s. Between 1858 and 1859 Emily Torrence wrote letters to her cousin Mary Torrence in North Carolina, detailing daily life in Pope County, Arkansas.
