This letter contains a letter written by Confederate prisoner of war John Walker to his mother while he was incarcerated at Johnson's Island, Ohio.

Biographical/Historical Note

John Walker was a Confederate prisoner of war held at Johnson's Island in 1865. There were many John Walker at Johnson's Island and it is most likely that the John Walker in the letter is the Rev. John F. Walker of the 53rd Tennessee Infantry. John F. Walker served as chaplain and was captured at Fort Donelson. He was transferred to Johnson's Island where he and other noncombatants were released and returned home.
