Biographical/Historical Note
The Arkansas Aviation Historical Society was established in October 1979 in Little Rock, Arkansas. The first meeting of the society was held on October 11, 1979 and their primary goals were discussed including: acquiring artifacts and records related to Arkansas aviation, establish and promote an Arkansas Aviation Hall of Fame, and to establish an Air and Space museum in Arkansas. The Arkansas Aviation Historical Society established an Arkansas Aviation Hall of Fame in 1980. The Hall of Fame honored Arkansans who played a significant role in the history of aviation both locally in Arkansas and nationally. The society established the Arkansas Aviation Museum (now the Arkansas Air Museum) at Drake Field, Fayetteville, Arkansas. By 1989, the society began discussing another possible museum to be located in Little Rock. In 1995 they opened the Aerospace Education Center. The Aerospace Education Center boasted original aircraft, a replica Apollo command module, and the state's first IMAX theater.
