Biographical/Historical Note
The Battle of Shiloh, also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, was one of the major early engagements of the Civil War. It was a battle in the Western Theater of the American Civil War, fought April 6-7, 1862, in southwestern Tennessee. It resulted in a Union victory; however, both sides suffered heavy losses, with more than 23,000 total casualties.
