Biographical/Historical Note

The Spanish American War Veterans and their auxiliary organization were first established in 1899. By 1914, they were merged with other veteran organizations to form the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In the state, the separate Spanish American War Veterans Auxiliary stayed active. In 1945, Mattie Watts of Hot Springs, Arkansas served as the state president.
