This collection contains correspondence, memos, minutes and entries to and from the Arkansas Creed Selection Committee.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Arkansas Creed Selection Committee was formed after the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 2 of 1969, introduced by state representative Roscoe Brown of Jonesboro. State historian, Dr. John Ferguson, was officially appointed head of the Creed Commission on March 3, 1970. Thirteen semifinalists were selected from ninety-one entries. The thirteen were narrowed down to a further top three, but no clear winner was selected. Instead, Dr. Ferguson wrote a new creed using the best elements from the top three. The new creed was introduced in the summer of 1972.
