This collection contains an article on the Crossett Lumber Company and two company memos.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Crossett Lumber Company was founded in 1899 by Charles W. Gates, Edward Savage Crossett, and Dr. John W. Watzek. In 1930 the company began to explore the possibility of a papermill to increase profits as the Great Depression began. A fact finding mission traveled to Louisiana to examine a papermill there. The Crossett Lumber Company opened a papermill in 1937. The company would merge with the Georgia-Pacific Company in 1962.
