This collection contains correspondence, military papers, diaries, and family history for the Colburn family of Alabama and Arkansas

Biographical/Historical Note

Edward Lorimer Colburn (1843-1907) was born in Alabama in 1843 to James Bussey Colburn and Martha James Bradford Colburn. His parents moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas where he and his brother John Colburn wrote to them during the Civil War. John served in the 3rd Alabama Volunteers and Edward served in Company B 23rd Regiment, South Carolina Infantry, Confederate States Army. John would die at the Battle of Seven Pines in 1862. Although Edward was captured and imprisoned at Point Lookout Edward went on to marry Eloise "Ella" Lee Dobyns in 1879. Edward Colburn died February 2, 1907.
