This collection contains a letter written by R.W. Martin the president of the Batesville & Brinkley Railroad Company.

Biographical/Historical Note

On Dec. 7, 1881, a charter was filed in the Secretary of State’s office for a line of railroad between Batesville and Brinkley, it was known as the Batesville & Brinkley Railroad. The company purchased an existing railroad from Cotton Plant to Brinkley. Then the railroad was built northward toward Newport to Jacksonport, Arkansas. R.W. Martin was the president of the railroad in 1890.
