Collection contains accounting of items from Benjamin Murphy to be sold.

Biographical/Historical Note

Benjamin Murphy was one of the first settlers of Cadron, Arkansas, originally living just above the Cadron Bluff. By 1819 he operated a small store just below the Cadron Bluff. He was the holder of Little Rock pre-emption certificate which he sold to William Russell, one of the most infamous land speculators in the Arkansas Territory. He represented Pulaski and Crawford Counties in the Territorial Legislature from 1821 until 1822. Murphy provided items to Graham L. Walker for sale to the Osage Nation. The value of these items were assigned by Murphy to William L. Evans on October 17, 1817.
