Biographical/Historical Note

Gustavus A. Fogee, born in Charleston, South Carolina about 1833, was a merchant at Arkansas Post. He and his wife Mary Ann (Conine)had at least four children. He died January 6, 1878 and is buried in Scull Cemetery at Arkansas Post. Mary took over the merchant business after his death. Registered in 1870, the Belle of Texas was a sidewheel steamboat.
