This collection consists of one store ledger and one justice of the peace docket book.
Biographical/Historical Note
W.C. (William Claiborne) Patman was born in Alabama. A farmer and school director, Patman served as justice of the peace of Big Creek Township, White County, Arkansas, for 10 years. He belonged to the Pangburn Methodist Church, where he was a member of the board of trustees. On April 28, 1890, Patman married Rodema Etta Marsh (June 30, 1873-November 8, 1957), daughter of Tilman and Mary H. Tate Marsh, at Searcy, Arkansas. According to the 1910 Big Creek Township, White County, Arkansas, census, the two had six children: Barrett, age 19; Selma E., age 18; Estelle, age 11;Owen, age 9; Vivian L. age 3; and Rufus C[ornelius], age 4/12. Patman died October 3, 1949, at his home in Pangburn, Arkansas. According to his obituary, which appeared in the "Daily Citizen," in Searcy on October 4, 1949, his widow Rodema and four children were still living at the time of his death: Selma Hickman, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Estelle Armstrong, Alexandria, Louisiana; Owen Patman, Carlsbad, New Mexico; and Nina Bridges, Little Rock, Arkansas. After services at the Pangburn Methodist Church, Patman was buried in Henderson Cemetery at Pangburn, Arkansas.
